New Community at Peredur, East Grinstead

The idea is to create an interactive and mutual supportive community for 20 to 30 adults seeing self-contained accommodation to live alone or with a partner. Many people with grown-up families are now looking for a new type of lifestyle and one of the aims will be to cater for this need and the related need of those seeking an active retirement. Naturally, younger people who are sympathetic to these needs will also be most welcome. The wish is to create a stimulating setting for those wishing to engage with others of like mond and develop a cultural life around the community. Communal gardens and some recreational facilities are integral to the concept.

The proposal is to buy the Student Hostel at Tobias School of Art with 2.5 acres of land and create approximately twenty flats - mainly two-bedroom units, but some one-bed and three-bed units would be included. The location within the Peredur campus is ideal for the proposed development since it already enjoys a programme of events connected with the art school, the speech school and the eurythmy programme. The hostel itself will provide nine units and the rest of the development will be two or three new buildings, subject to planning consent.
